ABOUT
Early Life and Education:
I was born in 1986 in Tbilisi, Georgia. Since early childhood, drawing has been a part of my life, with people saying I started as early as two years old. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be an artist. This passion led me to enroll in the Fashion Design and Arts Faculty at the State Academy of Arts in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Teaching and Early Career:
In 2004-2005, while still a student, I taught art to children at a private studio. In 2006, I took a year off to move to London, where I created handmade accessories inspired by my experiences. Upon returning to Tbilisi, I continued my studies and began working as a set designer and makeup artist at the theater.
Graduation and Early Work:
I graduated in 2008 with a diploma work titled “Immortal Mohegan,” inspired by my admiration for Native American culture. This work gained significant publicity and media coverage. Later that year, I traveled to Marrakech, Morocco, for pottery training, where I learned native clay techniques and held a small exhibition.
Exploration and Artistic Evolution:
In 2009, I worked at an art gallery in Amsterdam, preparing for the exhibition “Dionaea Muscipula,” using oil and acrylic on cardboard. After returning to Tbilisi, I found that my artistic expression had shifted; I moved from using colors to working with ink. I developed a deep love for drawing ornaments, using Japanese ink and a fountain pen to create intricate, narrative-rich designs.
Exhibitions and Move to New York:
In 2012, I participated in the group exhibition “Dual Verse” at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, showcasing my drawings alongside George Areshidze’s oil paintings. In 2013, after a short visit to New York, I decided to move there permanently in 2015, drawn by the city's vibrant art scene.
Recent Exhibitions:
In July 2021, I participated in the London Art Biennale. Later that year, I was part of the group exhibition “Universal Language IV” presented by Gabriel Fine Arts in London. In December 2021, I exhibited at the Red Dot Miami Art Fair. The following year, in 2022, I participated in the Superfine Art Fair in New York. In January 2023, I exhibited in Boston at the show "What's Going On."
Artistic Philosophy:
My artworks are a reflection of my visions, dreams, and the reality I perceive. Each piece is an emotional and personal journey, evolving with different periods of my life. The ornaments I draw serve as my language, allowing me to communicate complex stories and emotions without words. Using Japanese ink and a fountain pen allows me to control the thickness of each line, adding depth and precision to my work.
Conclusion:
My artistic journey has been one of constant evolution and exploration. From teaching and theater work to international exhibitions, each experience has enriched my craft. Living in New York has provided a dynamic environment where I continue to create and share my unique perspective through art.
